Search for Homes in Columbine in the MLS Brief History of Columbine In the late 1950's, a small housing development was started by Trend Homes with a sales office located at Canyon Trail and S. Depew Street, now home of the Columbine Animal Hospital. Normandy Estates was the only nearby neighborhood. The need for the neighborhood to unite and work together was evident. There were only 155 houses, surrounded by thousands of acres of open fields and dirt roads. In the late 1960's and 1970's Ridgewood Realty began developing additions to our area. New homes were built in the area north of Elmhurst Avenue to Ken Caryl Ave., south of Elmhurst Ave. to Chatfield Ave., from Platte Canyon to Kendall Blvd., and gradually the development extended to Pierce Street. The first elementary schools were the cottage schools on Elmhurst Ave., now housing the pre-school program. Columbine Hills Elementary School was built and was dedicated on November 5, 1964 and observed its 30th anniversary in 1995. Ken Caryl Junior School and then Columbine High School was built along with elementary schools in other area developments.
