Montclair
Montclair District is bounded by I-70 on the North, Leetsdale Drive on the South, Colorado Boulevard on the West and Havana Street on the East. It is comprised of fifteen neighborhood parks and over 15 miles of dedicated parkway.
Colonial Revival
The total amount of maintained turf area is 200 acres. The most recognized park in the area is Cranmer Park, or "Sundial Park". Located between 1st and 3rd, and Bellaire and Clermont. The extensive parkway system includes 6th Avenue, Monaco Parkway, 17th Avenue, Alameda Parkway, Forest Parkway, Clermont Parkway, and Martin Luther King Parkway, these ammenities set Montclair District apart
The Man Who Created Montclair
Baron von Richthofen and developer Matthias P. Cochran established the Montclair Town and Improvement Company in 1885. Named after Cochran's hometown community in Montclair, New Jersey. Baron von Richthofen was related to Manfred von Richthofen who later would shoot down 80 Allied aircraft during World War I as the celebrated " Red Baron". One of the major attractions with Mont Clair was the fact it rose 330 feet above Denver offering it's residence the opportunity to rise above the smoke of the city and sported one of the finest views attainable.
The Early Days
Many considered the area a paradise, however access to the city's jobs, services and amusements brought about the Denver Tramway Company to build four streetcar lines. The first horse drawn line opened in 1887. The neighborhood assured it's property owners they owned a prestigeous address by requiring that homes where built on twice the city size lots of 25 by 125 foot parcels.
Montclair's Architecture
One of the reason's Montclair had initial appeal was the fact it was promoted as a health resort. The homes were designed and constructed specifically with unenclosed side porches and open floor plans which was thought to be therapeutic for those suffering from the 19th Century's most deadliest deseases Tuberculosis or TB. Montclair features a vairent style of it's own unique bungalow.
Montclair 's neighborhood also features styles of the late 19th century Vernacular, Queen Anne, Foursquare and Neoclassical designs. Including 20th Century bungalows, classical cottages, Tudor Revivals, Castles and ranch styles.
